Fred will present a distinction between the mindset of the victim and that of the hero. While the victim feels at the mercy of circumstances, the heroine sees herself as able to respond to those circumstances with her full power. She knows she can enact her values as she seeks to fulfill her purpose with integrity. We will do an experiential exercise then, where each participant will have a chance to consider some challenge from both perspectives and evaluate the difference the mindset shift can make. We will finish with a dialogue on how these insights can permeate the participants lives, and extend to their communities. You will learn; Life is not defined by what happens to you but by how you respond to it; The "victim" of circumstance feels at the mercy of factors she can't control; The "heroine" knows that even if she can't control the waves, she can learn how to surf. Peace of mind and happiness come from a noble purpose and moral values. In recent years, more and more attention has been given to doing this by encouraging more women to pursue entrepreneurship. As an increasing number of women participate on founding teams for start-up companies and launch their own businesses, another gap has become apparent: women's businesses lag enterprises founded by men in growth, revenues, and profits. All this is reflected in women-founded ventures scaling at a fraction of the rate of ones started by men. For the past 20 years and with a few exceptions, women have been mainly talking to themselves. There have been many tremendous strides in women's advancement, but it is still a trickle. Men still hold the majority of the share of the pie in leadership globally, and the needle on the quest for parity in leadership is barely moving. There has been a missing link in this process, and this is the activism of men. Men can be powerful ambassadors for an accelerated pace in women's advancement to the top. Men are untapped, yet a critical resource in advancing women's global leadership. How do we tap into this critical resource? We engage them. The reality is that male leaders are the ones who can majorly influence the change in the balance of power - and achieve gender equality in leadership. But why should they get involved? What's in it for them? And how do women engage them? Are both genders prepared to shape this collaboration? This 90-minute presentation will tackle these issues and why there is an urgent call to action for women to engage men in leadership positions if we are to achieve gender equality and an accelerated pace for women's leadership advancement.
